Independent Contractors

Growing in popularity over the years has been incorporation of independent contractors. Independent contracting is a legitimate means to be self-employed in order to provide services, however CRA has a number of rules in place which attempt to define the difference between an employee and an independent contractor. Sometimes the line between what is legally formed and what is actually determined by CRA can differ, and negative tax consequences can result. At Kreston GTA, we advise our clients on the tax implications of incorporating as an independent contractor, as well as advice on the most common expense claims and how to minimize your taxes.

For the independent contractor we can provide the following services:

  • Advice on whether or not to incorporate
  • Bookkeeping
  • GST/HST filings
  • Annual corporate tax filings
  • Advice on the tax implications of contracting in multiple provinces
  • Advice on the types of expenses to claim
